Are These Hair Product DUPES Worth It??

If you're on TikTok, you're aware of the DUPES that are taking the nation by storm. I decided to take it upon myself to try them and let you know if they're worth the hype or not. Because I do use the products that are being duped, I thought it would give them a try.

Color Wow Dream Coat

This stuff literally changed my life! Louisiana = HUMIDITY. It disgusting and ruins any hairstyle you spent hours on. With Color Wow Dream Coat, I don't have to worry about frizzy flyaways. It lasts 3-4 washes, however, I use it after every wash. You must blowdry your hair with tension to activate the product. This means that a hairbrush is a necessity. I use this one. It's absolutely amazing! If you're comfortable with spending a whopping $28 for each and every bottle, this stuff is ideal for you - or so you thought.

"Directions: Shampoo, condition. Towel dry hair, divide into sections. Spray each section liberally, comb through. Blow-dry each section using tension. Dryer heat required to activate product."

"INGREDIENTS: WATER/AQUA/EAU, DIPROPYLENE GLYCOL, POLYSILICONE-29, SILICONE QUATERNIUM-18, GLYCERIN, TRIDECETH-6, CHAMOMILLA OFFICINALIS FLOWER EXTRACT, CALENDULA OFFICINALIS FLOWER EXTRACT, POTASSIUM SORBATE, PHENOXYETHANOL, TRIDECETH-12, SODIUM BENZOATE, CHLORPHENESIN, POTASSIUM BENZOATE, DISODIUM EDTA, CITRIC ACID."

The product has a shelf-life of 12 months.

Hair Proud Glass Hair

Is this an exact dupe for the Color Wow Dream Coat? Well, hang on a second. While Hair Proud Glass Hair is NOT an exact dupe, it's pretty dang close. For $8.98, Walmart offers this dupe for the savvy and wallet conscious individual. This product is PETA Approved and the bottle/cap are 100% recyclable while the original is not. You do have to apply Hair Proud Glass Hair after every wash as it is only good for one shampoo. Just like the original, heat and tension are required to activate the product. I prefer to use a hot brush like this one.

"How to Use: Apply to damp hair liberally in sections, avoiding the roots, blow dry using a brush to create tension to release the encapsulated shine."

"INGREDIENTS: AQUA (WATER, EAU), DIPRPYLENE GLYCOL, PHENOXYETHANOL, BUTYLANE GLYCOL, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, POLYSILICONE-29, PEG-12 DIMETHICONE, SILICONE QUATERNIUM-18, CETRIMONIUM CHLORIDE, TRIDECETH-5, PARFUM (FRAGRANCE), QUATERNIUM-80, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, TRIDECETH-12, GLYCOLIC ACID, ISOPENTYLDIOL, CITRIC ACID, BETAINE, GLYCERIN, PANAX GINSENG ROOT EXTRACT, SODIUM HYALURONATE, BHT, PUNICA GRANATUM (POMEGRANATE) FRUIT EXTRACT, POTASSIUM SORBATE, METHYL BENZOATE, SORBIC ACID, BENZYL SALICYLATE, LIMONENE."

The product has a shelf-life of 12 months.

Let's Compare: Color Wow vs. Hair Proud

Upon first look, you would think that these two products are exactly the same, but they're not. Color Wow lasts 3-4 washes while Hair Proud needs to be used after every wash. The directions for both products are almost identical, however, Hair Proud recommends avoiding the roots. As for scent, Color Wow smells lightly of alcohol while Hair Proud has a strong coconut scent. Both of these products helps defrizz hair meaning they will withstand humidity. Heat and tension are required to activate both products. Color Wow is $20 more expensive than Hair Proud. How many fluid ounces are in each product? Color Wow has 6.7 Fl oz (200mL) while Hair Proud has 5.07 Fl oz (150mL). And for the grand finale, both products give hair a glass-like appearance - smooth and frizz-free. Verdict? Hair Proud is a DUPE!

It's a 10: Miracle Leave-In Product

Just like Color Wow Dream Coat, It's a 10: Miracle Leave-In Product changed my life. I have always struggled with dry, dull hair. When a friend introduced me to this product, I was instantly hooked! Not Your Mother's All Eyes on Me 10-in-1 Hair Perfector

I didn't believe there could be a dupe for It's a 10: Miracle Leave-In Product until I met Not Your Mother's All Eyes on Me 10-in-1 Hair Perfector. It's exactly that - perfect. This product is vegan, cruelty free, and gluten free while the original is not vegan or gluten free. Not Your Mother's All Eyes on Me 10-in-1 Hair Perfector can withstand 450°F heat. I use it after every wash and notice a significant difference in my hair since I've started using it. Each bottle is $6.88 at Walmart.

"10 Instant Benefits

  2. 450°F heat protection
  3. Helps restore dry hair
  4. Controls frizz
  5. Moisturizes

The bottle does not state shelf-life.

Let's Compare: It's a 10 vs. Not Your Mother's

So, I'm a little bias and think that Not Your Mother's is better than It's a 10 because of how it helps my hairbrush glide through my hair after a wash. I'm not really a fan of Not Your Mother's fragrance. It's very potent and sickly sweet while It's a 10 is still fragranced but it's not as potent. In the list of 10 things It's a 10 does, it states that it "seals & protects hair color" while Not Your Mother's does not mention this. I feel this is important to note because some individuals may want color protectant. Not Your Mother's does have a note at the bottom of the bottle that states, "Safe for natural & color-treated hair." The directions are almost identical, however, Not Your Mother's states to avoid the roots. It's a 10's list states it is "flat iron spray and thermal protector," while Not Your Mother's is heat protected up to 450°F. Verdict? Not Your Mother's is a DUPE!

Final Thoughts

These viral TikTok dupes are, in fact, DUPES! They're exponentially cheaper than the originals, and they work just as well. You can, also, pick them up while you're grabbing groceries. Sephora is an extra trip. If you could try these dupes, would you? Let me know in the comments!
